Subject: Ewoks: Caravan of Courage (1984) Wed Aug 20, 2008 1:27 am
One of the great things of throwing freeparties and working your ass off for a night and a day, is the MONDAY after. Why do I spell MONDAY in all-caps? Because, obviously, there is a difference between a Monday (as in, the day after Sunday) and a MONDAY (as in, the day that follows a 36-hour working day).
On MONDAYs, I tend to watch movies. Lot's of them. Simultaneously. (That's not true actually, but I like to use the word simultaneously, it makes me feel important. )
So last MONDAY, which coincided with an actual Monday, I watched Caravan of Courage.
This movie is one of the perfect movies to watch on a MONDAY. It portrays the struggle of a family who crashlanded on the forest moon of Endor. (I hear you thinking now "Hey, Endor! Wasn't that in Star Wars?". Yes sirree, it sure was!) Ewoks: Caravan of Courage is one of the Star Wars spin-offs that actually made a video release. To cut a long story short, a family crashes on Endor, the parents get abducted by some giant monster, Ewoks help the kids retrieve their parents, there are some simple lessons about having mutual respect when coping with different cultures than your own and some laserguns are fired. Everybody lives happily ever after. Or do they? (What do I mean by this? Just check out the review of Battle for Endor that I'm going to put up tomorrow)
The acting is. I mean it. It just is.
The Ewoks are. They just are.
It's the dialog that makes this movie worthwhile though! Numerous infamous running gags between Zeehond and me have found their roots in this movie..."Please, it hurts"..."Spaaaaaaaaaayzzz kwwooozaaah! K'wêêêzjjj!"...All timeless, beautiful quotes that will haunt many people's dreams for years!
The special effects are about as good as your avarage Troma release. Which means they are AWESOME (do note the difference between awesome and AWESOME). It's an acquired taste though.
I rank this stroke of brilliance a bladder-popping 6.5/10, though anyone really into Star Wars should definitely watch this movie. Just so you can say so.
