The legendary Toshiro Mifune stars as Kuwabatake Sanjuro, a ronin travelling around the countryside of Japan. When Sanjuro arrives at a small village, the constable explains that there are two rivaling gangs competing with eachother. Sanjuro decides to stay and see if he can play the two gangs out against each other.

This film is a true classic, which inspired a great many directors and writers (see Last Man Standing, A Fistful of Dollars and for instance Star Wars). The acting is good, the cinematography is awesome, especially for a movie of this age. The movie never feels dated, even though it's shot in black and white.

If you like modern day samurai (inspired) films, this is one of movies that helped define the genre!
