In a small town in Japan, Kirie comes upon her boyfriend's father silently videotaping a snail. He seems unaware of her presence and she thinks no more of it. Later, the mans obsession with spirals becomes more and more bizarre, ending in his suicide in a washing machine which turn his body into a spiral. Soon other inhabitants become possesed with different forms of spirals, one student seems to be mutating into a snail, another's hair becomes strangely medusa-like. The entire town becomes possesed.
As often with movies based on manga or japanese comics, I have mix feelings. In one side, it is full of really great ideas, freaky and original but in the same time, sometimes it is a bit too silly. Somehow it is too silly to be really considered real horror but not funny enough to be considered a comedy, something like that... But I really loved some of the ideas and some parts are seriously creepy The acting is quite bad but this is not very important for such movie Overall, I really enjoyed watching it, it's entertaining and weird
I actually would love to read the manga
And here is the trailer

good movie, but like you said... not really scary, not really funny and a notch weird (but wich Japanese movie isn't a notch strange, ey! )
agreed, the manga will probably be muy bene... still this movie is worthy enough to watch... especially when you're particularily fond of Asian cinema, like me!
