i LOOOOVE this movie, I have seen sooo many times I also really like this director, who is also an actor (he plays for instance Nino Quincampoix in Amelie...) I love everything about it: the dialogues, the atmosphere, the touches of humour, the story, the actors (and especially Vincent Cassel, one my favorite actor ), I love that it shows how it really is, with this boredeness all along the movie I have been quite a few times in some "hot" surbubs of Paris visiting friends, and this atmosphere, the language, the bordeness, the constant "war" with the police, everything.... This movie is a necessary must see in my opinion Really one of the kind
Trailer (in french sorry, couldn't find it in english )

The first time I watched La Haine, it was on some French television station and I had to watch it without subtitles...At the time I had French classes at school and I understood about half of it...Still really really really liked it a lot though...
The second time I watched La Haine, I rented it and there were subtitles...All of a sudden, I could understand what was being said a lot better than before and the movie began to gain depth...
I've watched it from time to time since then and I never grow bored of it, great acting, great story, really good soundtrack, I could go on for ages, but this film certainly deserves a 10/10 (damn...that's my second one today )

Must have been hard with all the "verlan" in it
For those who dont know what the "verlan" is. It is a way of speaking in France surbubs (although it is used other places too these days), it's an invertion of syllabes. Really unic evolution of language For instance to say Merci, they say Cimer. They can speak full sentences like this. Even I can not always understand everything sometimes...

That was indeed the hard part An understanding half of it might be somewhat exagerated, I think it couldn't have been more than 1/4th of the text
