Ghost In The Shell,
another movie no movie forum can do without.
One of the most intelligent:

The manga is notable for the proliferation of footnotes and commentary by Shirow himself on both the technology and the socio-political background of the setting (in the complete, English language graphic novel edition, these take up more than 30 pages).

He he Yes I remember that discussion we had about it on AOA I liked Ghost In The Shell Although I found it a bit slow. But really nicelly done and quite deep I should watch it again, maybe my mood was not up for a slow flick that day (with all the slow movies I have watched recently, I'm trained now )

Saw it at the IFFR in 19....98? Or 97? Or 99? I don't know exactly anymore
Anyway, I saw it there, made sure I hade it on tape as soon as possible afterwards, and even saw it quite recently...another one that shouldn't be left aside either
If your into cyberpunkish movies, this is a must see, 9/10!

yes ok, although I think the thema of the matrix (and so maybe of Ghost In The Shell) also come from cyberpunk litterature and some Sci-fi novels such as Neuromancer (I really want to read this one)
Here in Wiki, they also talk about Ghost In The Shell

just admit it already!!! :p
Wikipedia says:
Quote :
Japanese director Mamoru Oshii's Ghost in the Shell was a strong influence. Producer Joel Silver has stated that the Wachowski brothers first described their intentions for The Matrix by showing him that anime and saying, "We wanna do that for real".[38][39] Mitsuhisa Ishikawa of Production I.G, which produced Ghost in the Shell, noted that the anime's high-quality visuals were a strong source of inspiration for the Wachowski brothers. He also commented, "... cyberpunk films are very difficult to describe to a third person. I'd imagine that The Matrix is the kind of film that was very difficult to draw up a written proposal for to take to film studios." He stated that since Ghost in the Shell had gained recognition in America, the Wachowski brothers used it as a "promotional tool".[40] Besides Ghost in the Shell, another anime which influenced The Matrix was the 1985 film Megazone 23.[41]

Found on the french wiki:
Quote :
But anyway, you are probably also right
In any case Ghost In The Shell is also deaply influenced by this book and by cyberpunk litterature, so Matrix took influence in Ghost in the shell, and Ghost in the shell took influence by other things too Ghost in the shell can certainly not be seen as the first one to have this type of ideas

Maybe I wasn't in the mood for anime, but I didn't really like this movie! Not that it sucks or anything it's visually stunning! Just the story...
6/10 (but that's only for the visual part)
