I bought Transformers recently, though various friends had told me it was a crappy movie and the robots looked like shit. I had to see for myself ofcourse and decided to have a go at it today.
I started of with zero expectations, maybe that is the trick with this movie, because I enjoyed it quite a lot! The robots look a bit like LEGO Bionicles, which is a shame, but on the other hand, I can understand the need to connect to a large audience with this kind of productions, which make it hard to have simpler, less organic looking robots. The main thing what I didn't like about the robots is that they are SO shiny! They gleam and sparkle like your average christmas tree decoration! Whatever happened to matte textures?
The movie itself is decent, it's a typical Hollywood story about growing up, finding love and friendship and regular people being catapulted into crisis situations, releasing the hero that's in EVERYONE. The acting is good enough, though a bit over the top at some points (the fat hacker kid that the Australian girl goes to for help clearly didn't pay attention when they explained what overacting was and how it doesn't work in movies). The special effects are really good, solid CGI (though I didn't always like the design of the robots so much, the overall quality of the computer imagery is kick-ass!).
Watching this movie was not a waste of my time, I'm happy I watched it and I'm even going to watch it again someday!

loved the cartoon series when I was a child...
conciously never watched and never will watch this hi-tech Hollywood adaptation for the big screen, because I now the youthsentiment involved won't allow my mind to find this a good movie, and so I think this will only piss me off!!!

I'm a true oldskool Transformers adept as well, but somehow, I'm able too let that kind of emotions loose and just sit back and enjoy it as a nice scifi/action film
