Requiem for a Dream exposes four paralleled individuals and their menacing addiction to heroin, cocaine, and diet pills (speed). Taking place in Brooklyn amidst the waning Coney Island, the drugs are very easily obtained and keep each main character in its cycle of dependence. The protagonist Harry Goldfarb is your typical heroin junky with an ambitious plan of "Getting off hard knocks," with help from his cocaine crazed girlfriend Marion and his long time friend Tyrone. Meanwhile his widowed mother is obsessed with the glamor of television and eventually finds her way to a dietitian who pushes her into the cycle of drug induced enslavement
This movie changed my soul for ever. I saw it the first time while I was... well I was wasted and it traumatised me, I had to watch it 2 more times that weekend just to make sure that these emotions I had were not just my wasted state of mind I love everything about it, never, ever a movie had such a strong impact on me, it touched me like no other movies did before
The acting is absolutelly amazing, especially Ellen Burstyn who is stunning in this movie
And the music, we all know it, just hearing it gives me sklin rushes
Also really liked the official site at the time Official Site

This is one of the worst films I've seen. It has a see trough film plot and predictable as hell. It has one shock effect at the end (not even all that shocking) and the only thing I liked was the mother. I wouldn't even give it a positive review if my mother was held at gunpoint and my balls were hanging over the meat grinder with an anvil placed on top of my head.
3/10

I'm somewhere in between the two of you. The first time I saew it, I liked it, but later times... I dunno. The way it's shot is nice, although he uses the same tricks in 'π'... the shocks are shocking but cheap... blahblah "drugs are bad"... all that. The mother was good though, I have to agree.I'd say 6-/10

I laughed my ass off...
Other people's misery can be SO funny
( < hope that was clear)
It's a bit too dramatic for me...too much drama get's me bored and bored isn't where a movie should take me...
But I don't think it's as bad as Zeehond says...it just doesn't pull my trigger like Deep Throat does
